Waterway: The Story of Seattle's Locks and Ship Canal

by David B. Williams, Jennifer Ott, and Historylink

New Book of the Week , August 7, 2017

David B. Williams might seem a one-man Seattle history industry, except that this lovely book, timed to honor the centennial of the Lake Washington Ship Canal and the Chittenden Locks that linked the freshwater of Lake Washington with the salt of Puget Sound, is a collaboration, with fellow historian Jennifer Ott and the staff of Historylink. But it's of a piece with Williams's other books, tirelessly curious about the massive transformations that built the early city as well as the hundreds of smaller side stories that make history human. And the gorgeous, striking photos and old maps are alone worth the price of admission.
