Vessels: A Love Story
by Daniel Raeburn
New Book of the Week , March 21, 2016
There seems to be a lot of death in the books a lot of us are reading these days. There is as much life as death in this memoir—it's a story of births, and of the birth and rebirth of love—but it's haunted throughout, not just by a death at its center, but by the uncertainty of Raeburn and his wife, Bekah, that happiness and life and love are really what they can expect. I knew Raeburn as the author of The Imp, a brilliantly appreciative series of booklets on comics, but his memoir is something else entirely, a self-examination both reticent and confessional that will likely leave you haunted as well.
