The Wolves of Currumpaw

by William Grill

Kids' Book of the Week , July 18, 2016

I may be a bit of a broken record about both the big, beautiful productions of Flying Eye Books (see Wild Animals of the North) and the young British illustrator William Grill (see last year's fantastic Shackleton's Journey), but what can you do when a breathtaking item like Grill's new book arrives? A retelling of Ernest Thompson Seton's autobiographical tale of a wolf-hunter's education at the hands of a noble, brilliant wolf, The Wolves of Currumpaw's rough, visionary penciling, in both grids of tiny pictures and vast landscapes, makes you feel alive in the very looking. (8 and up)
