The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film
by Michael Ondaatje
Old Book of the Week , February 3, 2020
One of my favorite books on creativity is this book-length dialogue between a novelist and a film editor, who got to know each other when Murch, best known for his work on The Godfather and Apocalypse Now and for his own classic book, In the Blink of an Eye, edited the adaptation of Ondaatje's The English Patient. The cross-disciplinary discussion, their wide-ranging curiosity, their shared love of film, and the genuine affection between them all make for a deliciously enlightening conversation of interest for any film lover, or anyone interested in the construction of a good story.
