Sunny Side Up

by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm

Kids' Book of the Week , May 30, 2016

It's the summer of 1976 and nothing seems to be going right for 10-year-old Sunny Lewin. She is sent by her parents to spend the summer with her Gramps at his retirement home in Florida and it's quite boring. It's two hours from Disney World, and Gramps only goes on exciting trips to the post office and grocery store. Things get better when Sunny makes a friend in Buzz, the son of the retirement home's gardener, who shares his love of comic books with her. Yet Sunny's family has a secret that keeps holding her back. Fans of Raina Telgemeier's Smile and Sisters will soak this graphic novel up! (10 and up)
