So, Anyway...
by John Cleese, read by John Cleese
Book Review , January 16, 2017
As soon as I heard the first words of Cleese's memoir, spoken in the familiar tone (a little thickened by age) of the tallest Python himself, I thought, "Oh, right. This is going to be funny." Well, of course. But it's thoughtful too: about the rare elements that make good comedy, and about psychology, family relations, and education, including a thorough accounting of Cleese's schoolmasters and chums that, remarkably, remains interesting throughout. How did an over-tall son of an insurance salesman veer suddenly from a career in the law to one in laughter? Hearing it all in Cleese's always-on-the-edge-of-umbrage voice makes you think you are in the most sensible episode of Fawlty Towers ever recorded. —Tom
