Ready All!: George Yeoman Pocock and Crew Racing

I may be the only person in Seattle who hasn't read The Boys in the Boat (I will, I promise! I know it's great!), but even I know that the British-born boatbuilder George Yeoman Pocock is the philosophical and practical heart of the book. But before Daniel James Brown's runaway bestseller there was Ready All!, a short 1987 biography of Pocock that the University of Washington Press has just wisely reissued in a handsome, oversized paperback edition full of archival photos and extensive quotes from Pocock's own diaries. It's an appealing record of Pocock's singular personality and the UW's remarkable rowing tradition.
