Open House for Butterflies

by Ruth Krauss, illustrated by Maurice Sendak

Kids' Book of the Week , January 30, 2018

While you lament the inexplicable injustice that Krauss and Sendak's marvelous collaboration, A Hole Is to Dig, remains out of print, you can at least enjoy one of its sequels, this little book from 1960, written very much in A Hole Is to Dig's style of offbeat, truth-in-nonsense aphorisms: "Yesterday shows another day is here," "A baby is so you could be the boss," "When you run out of cereal can you run into it again?" And the tiny Sendak drawings that accompany these koans? They carry all the Sendakian charm and personality you expect. (Ages 3 and up)
