NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity

by Steve Silberman

New Book of the Week , September 7, 2015

To say any book is "the book" on a complex condition like autism is absurd, and for someone like me, with no personal or professional expertise on the subject, to say it is more so. But NeuroTribes sure feels that way as you read it. Weaving personal stories of autistic people, both past and present, into a passionate and often jaw-dropping history of the diagnosis and misdiagnosis of the condition, Silberman manages to be both riveting and encyclopedic, as well as deeply generous and hopeful about the possibilities a greater understanding of neurodiversity can offer us.
