Drawn & Quarterly: Twenty-Five Years of Contemporary Cartooning, Comics, and Graphic Novels

by Tom Devlin (Editor), Chris Oliveros (Editor), and more

New Book of the Week , June 15, 2015

Oh, good gravy, what a gorgeous and gigantic book. If you're like me, and grew up with Drawn & Quarterly, the scrappy Montreal comics publisher that along with Seattle's own Fantagraphics has led the explosion of indie comics over the last quarter century, you'll likely be drawn into the pages of reminiscence that open this anniversary volume. But the real riches follow, and if you're new to D&Q, just start there: a half a thousand pages of more fun and brilliance than you can imagine came from one cold, bilingual place. Julie Doucet, Adrian Tomine, Chester Brown, Lynda Barry, Jason Lutes, Chris Ware, Kate Beaton, Seth, Joe Sacco, Tove Jansson, Joe Matt, Jillian Tamaki, and many more: any of them could change your life. Let them try.
