Phinney Kids by Post #43

Wenzel returns to the same premise as in his Caldecott Honor winner, They All Saw a Cat—everyone brings their own perspective to the same thing—but for me there's something even more evocative about making a stone—so solitary, cold, and unmoving, at least on first glance—the center of his attention. You'd never think a mere stone could carry the emotion and insight he brings to it, but by the end, there it is, dark and bright, smooth and rough, a pebble and a hill, in all the variety we bring it, with a wonderfully incantatory text to accompany it. Lovely. (Age 0 to 5)
