Audio Book of the Week Exit West by Mohsin Hamid A recent roundtrip drive to Portland proved the perfect way to listen to Mohsin Hamid's short new novel (I was done by the time I passed Tacoma on the way back). Exit West's story of two young lovers driven by war and revolution from their unnamed country is written with the simple precision and matter-of-fact narration of a fairy tale, but it nevertheless feels so intensely realistic that I stepped out of my car imagining I was still in the world I had been listening to. Then again, his imagined world, in which refugees driven by violence and deprivation travel to the world's wealthier enclaves via mysterious, often heavily guarded doors, is not far at all from our own. —Tom (Audio download available from our partners at Libro.fm) Audio Book of the Week
